The GTA4088S is the high-pressure turbocharger in the Caterpillar C13 Acert compound (two-stage) turbo system, used from 2005 on the 12.5L C13. The Acert C13 runs two turbos in series: the smaller high-pressure GTA4088S spools fast for low-end response and feeds the larger low-pressure unit (GTA4702B) that handles top-end airflow. This is the high-pressure side, fitted to industrial and on-highway C13 Acert engines including Kenworth module trucks. The C13 Acert uses sequential twin turbos, so getting the right one means knowing which side you need. The GTA4088S is the high-pressure unit.

How the C13 Acert compound system works

The Acert C13 runs two turbos in series. The high-pressure GTA4088S sits closest to the engine and spools quickly for low-end torque, then feeds the larger low-pressure turbo that handles airflow at higher RPM. Both sides have to be right for the engine to make rated power and run clean.

High pressure vs low pressure

The GTA4088S is the high-pressure turbo. Its pair is the low-pressure GTA4702B (743279 / 10R2027 low-pressure series). If you are diagnosing a boost or smoke problem, confirm which unit has failed before ordering, since the two are different turbos with different part numbers.

Do you replace one turbo or both?

If only the high-pressure unit has failed you can replace it alone. Many shops do both when mileage is high since they wear at a similar rate. We supply the high-pressure GTA4088S and the low-pressure GTA4702B separately or as a pair.
