HE431V 5350060 VGT Turbocharger for Cummins ISM ISL QSM11

HE431V

The HE431V is the Holset VGT turbocharger for the Cummins ISM, ISL, ISME, and QSM11 engines on the CM875 platform, covering 2005-2007 model years. This turbo fits Freightliner buses, trucks, and other applications running the ISM 370 HP and related ratings. The HE431V uses a variable-geometry vane ring with a pneumatic actuator for boost control. Holset master number 5350060, Cummins OEM 4955462. Our HE431V ships new with all new components, dynamically balanced, with gaskets. We supply shops, fleets, and distributors.

FAQ

The HE431V (5350060) fits the Cummins ISM, ISL, ISME, and QSM11 engines on the CM875 platform, 2005-2007. It covers ISM 370 HP, ISM 02, and CPL 8557 ratings. OEM numbers include 4955462, 4044006, 4089600, 4045934, and 3781163.

Pneumatic. The VGT vanes are controlled by a boost-pressure-operated canister — no electronic actuator, no wiring harness, no ECM calibration required. If your turbo has an electronic actuator with a connector, you need the HE431VE instead.

The HE531V (2881992) is a larger turbo for higher-HP ISM/QSM11 applications (1999-2015). The HE431V is the smaller turbo for the CM875 platform at 370 HP. Both use pneumatic actuators. Match by part number.

Yes. Ships with the pneumatic VGT actuator and mounting gaskets.

Brand new, 100% new components, dynamically balanced. No core charge. One-year unlimited-mileage warranty.

Yes. US stock, volume pricing for shops, fleets, transit agencies, and distributors.

HE431V VGT for Cummins ISM and ISL: The CM875 Platform Turbo

The HE431V serves the Cummins ISM and ISL engines during the CM875 era (2005-2007). It is a VGT turbo with a pneumatic actuator — not electronic — which makes it simpler to diagnose and install than the later electronic VGT turbos (HE400VG, HE451VE). If your engine has a pneumatic canister on the turbo instead of an electronic box with a wiring harness, this is likely your turbo.

HE431V vs HE431VE vs HE531V on the ISM

Cummins used several VGT turbos on the ISM/QSM11 platform across different model years:

The quickest way to identify your turbo: if the actuator is a pneumatic canister with no wiring harness, you have either the HE431V or the HE531V. The HE531V is a larger turbo for higher-HP ISM applications. If the actuator is an electronic box with a connector, you have the HE431VE or HE400VG series. Always confirm by part number.

Common failure modes

  • Pneumatic actuator diaphragm failure — the canister diaphragm cracks, causing stuck vanes (open or closed). Test with regulated air supply.
  • Vane ring soot buildup — especially common on buses and vocational trucks with frequent stop-start duty cycles.
  • Bearing wear — shaft play at 200k-400k miles. Oil past seals, rising EGT.

Installation

  • Includes pneumatic actuator. Connect the boost reference hose from the intake manifold to the actuator canister.
  • Replace exhaust manifold and oil drain gaskets (included).
  • Flush oil feed line. Prime turbo before startup.
  • Idle 3-5 minutes, verify VGT vane movement by watching the actuator rod respond to boost changes.
