HE451VE 2882112 Turbocharger for Cummins ISX15 QSX 550HP

HE451VE

The HE451VE is the Holset VGT turbocharger for the higher-HP Cummins ISX15 and QSX engines, rated up to 550 HP. This turbo has been in production since 2009 and fits the CM570 engine control platform as well as some CM2250 and CM2350 applications from 2012-2017. The HE451VE is visually similar to the HE400VG but is a physically different turbo: it has an elongated compressor cover and a VGT actuator with two coolant ports. The two are not interchangeable. This listing is for the turbo assembly without the electronic actuator. If your existing actuator tests good, reuse it. Built new with all new components, dynamically balanced, ships with exhaust manifold and oil drain gaskets. We supply shops, fleets, and distributors.

FAQ

The HE451VE (2882112) fits the Cummins ISX15 and QSX engines rated at 500-550 HP, starting from 2009 on the CM570 platform. It also fits some 2012-2017 ISX15 engines on CM2250 and CM2350 platforms. OEM numbers include 2882112, 2882112RX, 3769054, 3769055, 3769056, 3769058, 3769059, and 3773488-3773492.

No. The HE451VE has an elongated compressor cover and a coolant-ported actuator with two coolant connections. The HE400VG has a shorter compressor cover and a non-cooled actuator. They are not interchangeable — different compressor geometry and different actuator mounting.

No. This listing is the turbo assembly only. If your existing actuator is functional, reuse it and run ECM calibration after install. Contact us if you need a turbo-and-actuator set.

Check the compressor cover: if it is elongated (longer than it is wide) and the actuator has two coolant hose connections, it is an HE451VE. If the compressor cover is shorter and the actuator has no coolant lines, it is an HE400VG. You can also check the turbo nameplate for the part number.

Brand new, 100% new components, dynamically balanced. Ships with gaskets. No core charge. One-year unlimited-mileage warranty.

Yes. US stock, volume pricing for shops, fleets, rebuilders, and distributors.

HE451VE 2882112: The High-HP ISX15 VGT Turbo

The HE451VE is the turbo you find on ISX15 engines rated at 500-550 HP. It shares the same VGT operating principle as the HE400VG — variable-geometry vanes controlled by an electronic actuator — but uses a larger compressor section to handle the higher airflow demands at 550 HP. If you run a fleet with mixed ISX15 power ratings, knowing the difference between the HE400VG and HE451VE is critical for ordering the right part.

HE451VE vs HE400VG - how to tell them apart

From the outside, the easiest way to distinguish the two:

FeatureHE451VE (this page)HE400VG
Compressor cover shapeElongatedStandard (shorter)
Actuator coolantTwo coolant ports on actuatorNo coolant ports
HP range500-550 HP400-525 HP

If your current turbo has an elongated compressor cover and the actuator has two coolant hose connections, you need the HE451VE. If the compressor cover is shorter and the actuator has no coolant lines, you need an HE400VG.

Common failure patterns

The HE451VE fails for the same reasons as other Cummins VGT turbos, but the 550 HP rating pushes components harder:

  • Vane ring soot buildup — the higher exhaust energy at 550 HP generates more soot. If DPF regen cycles are not completing properly, soot accumulates in the VGT vane ring and jams the vanes. Symptoms: derate codes, poor throttle response, fixed-boost behavior.
  • Bearing wear — at 550 HP the shaft speed and bearing load are higher. Bearing wear shows up as increasing shaft play, oil leaking past seals, and rising exhaust gas temperatures.
  • Actuator failure — the coolant-ported actuator on the HE451VE is more complex than the air-cooled HE400VG actuator. Coolant leaks at the actuator, stripped gears, and motor failure are all common. Diagnose actuator vs turbo failure separately before ordering.

Installation

  • If reusing your existing actuator: inspect the coolant hose connections for leaks, test the actuator motor response, and reinstall on the new turbo. Run ECM VGT calibration after startup.
  • Replace the exhaust manifold gasket and oil drain gasket (both included).
  • Flush and inspect the oil feed line before connecting. Replace if coked internally.
  • Prime with clean oil, hand-spin shaft, idle 3-5 minutes before loading.
  • Verify VGT position tracking through ECM before putting the truck under load.
