HT60 3537074 Turbocharger for Cummins N14

HT60

The HT60 is the Holset turbocharger built for the Cummins N14 14.0L engine — one of the most respected heavy-duty diesels ever made. The N14 ran in Class 8 trucks, construction equipment, marine vessels, and power generation from the late 1980s into the 2000s. The HT60 is a large-frame, fixed-geometry turbo with no electronics, no wastegate, and no VGT. It relies entirely on exhaust energy to build boost. Holset master number is 3537074; the Cummins assembly number is 3804502. This is a physically large turbo — about 76 lbs — so it ships with extra packaging protection. Our HT60 is built new with all new components, dynamically balanced, and ships with gaskets. We supply shops, fleets, and distributors.

HT60 for Cummins N14: The Turbo Behind the Legend

The Cummins N14 earned its reputation as one of the toughest engines in the trucking industry. The HT60 is the turbo that feeds it. At 14.0 liters and up to 525+ HP, the N14 demands a big turbo — and the HT60 delivers. It has been in production for decades, and N14 engines are still running daily in trucks, construction rigs, and generators.

Which N14 variants use the HT60?

The HT60 covers multiple N14 CPL numbers including 2025, 2026, 2143, 2228, 2306, 2388, 2390, 2391, 2398, 2492, 2575, 2591, and 2592. It also fits NTA14 and some N14 NE1 Euro 2 applications. Volvo trucks with the N14 use the same turbo. Always verify by the Holset part number on the turbo nameplate or the Cummins assembly number (3804502) against your engine CPL.

HT60 vs HX55 — different engines, different turbos

The HT60 is for the N14 (14.0L). The HX55 (3536995) is for the M11/ISM (10.8L). The HX55 (4089754) is for the ISX (15.0L). All three are fixed-geometry Holset turbos, but they are different sizes for different displacement engines. Do not cross-reference between them.

Common failure modes

  • Bearing wear — the most frequent failure. N14 engines often run 500k-1M miles, and the HT60 bearings wear proportionally. Shaft play, turbo whine, and oil past seals are the signs.
  • Compressor wheel erosion — decades of dust and debris take their toll on the large compressor wheel.
  • Turbine housing cracks — thermal fatigue over hundreds of thousands of hours of operation, especially on industrial and marine applications that run continuously.
  • Oil coking — the N14 runs hot, and shutdown without cooldown cooks oil in the bearing housing. Always idle down before killing the engine.

Installation

  • No electronics — bolt on, connect oil lines, and go.
  • The HT60 weighs about 76 lbs. Use a hoist or get a second pair of hands for installation.
  • Flush the oil feed line. Replace the oil drain gasket.
  • Prime with clean oil, hand-spin the shaft, idle 3-5 minutes before loading.
